Lelia Johnson

Lelia Johnson, Harry Estil’s mother, connects with the Lewis family of  Monmouthshire, Wales and the Harris family from Glamorgan, Wales, both emigrating from their Welsh homeland to Virginia in the earliest days of settlement near Jamestown, VA; and the Terrell and Overton immigrants to the Virginia colony from England in the middle 1600’s.  Lewis brothers had been banished to the island of Barbados following a defeat by the forces of Oliver Cromwell in the battle for Pembroke Castle, and their subsequent emigration to Virginia followed a few years later.  Descendants of the immigrant Robert Harris are still prevalent  in Hanover and adjacent counties, and in Louisa, where the Johnson family lived at Sunning Hill farm, the birthplace of Lelia Johnson’s father, Joseph Henry Johnson.
